Hello everyone!
Yesterday, an interview of Kuu-chan explaining the concept behind DNA was published on her mobile fanclub playroom. I tried to translate it, but by no means I am fluent in Japanese, so sometimes it was very difficult! If you see some mistakes, please let me know in the comments.

Part One
Here is the pre-release of the interview of Kuu-chan regarding the new album DNA, for all fanclub members!
Please check it out!
A power album from which is extracted the "DNA" that freely survives, in a changing era.
The evolution of Koda Kumi can not stop. DNA, that is much more than just a pop album, was just released. Because she was concerned about the details of the songs, she wanted to focus on music and listen to her feelings, she said that she declined all activities other than music, such as appearances in variety shows over the past few years.
To that extent, the musician Koda Kumi of today is “thick” and “hot”.
For those who do not know her recent works and for music fans who like summer fests, she wants them to know her now.
Her music is aggressive and amusing and sexy, but it is also said that this work 'DNA' that does not gently wrap around.
Q: This work "DNA" paired with the previous album AND issued at the beginning of this year has been released at an unusually high speed in just six months from the previous work, but what kind of concept is behind it?
A: While AND's songs were created to be played on the fan club tour, this album includes daringly core songs. It includes songs that I thought were probably difficult to like for fans who liked J-POP.
I created and named the album AND to show the connection between my music and my fans, in the sense that "I will like this song after hearing it at the live tour".
This time, the title DNA gathers popular songs that I have listened to until I was 18, different genres including Western music RandB , hiphop which I was doing at my debut, rock and reggae music, all of this is Kumi Koda's DNA.
Including the sound spice, I made it with a feeling that it would be a work that gathered the music "DNA" of Koda Kumi. "
Q: - I thought that this time it was a genre-less work with various expressions. First of all, I felt that the song order was easy to listen to.
A: "Really? I was really worried about it this time, because I was on a fan club tour, so I kept recording between concerts.
Even though I decided the music order to a certain extent at the demo stage, the image of the song changed when I finished the vocal recording, and at the same time the song order for the DNA Tour came to my mind.
It was difficult to decide the song order of the live set list, but it is nice to hear you say it was easy to listen to. It became an album where 200% of my present self was out.
- I felt that the track list had an inflection like it would be for a live production.
"I have been doing the production of LIVE for over 10 years, so in the last 8 years or so I tried to produce music while thinking about the live production as well.
I was imagining the songs (fancy dancing) and costumes, and I was selecting songs, but are not you doing songs like fans like old kun chan for fans?
It is said that there are popular songs that you can sing with catchy as you look at the questionnaire at LIVE, as well as composers Hi - yunk and Yoko Kuzatani who have produced songs so far.
Compared with AND for fans, I think that DNA has all catchy songs.
Q: After the introduction at the beginning of the album, the album starts with the single HUSH of the last year. What is the reason behind not putting Hush in the previous album AND?
A: "HUSH is a catchy image that I wanted to put in DNA rather than putting it into AND, and when thinking about the production of the tour, this song is more effective for the hall tour than the live house. "
Q: There is also a very interesting part in the lyrics: "From toe to head, playing, get burned". To say that whatever you do halfway is bad is powerful.
A: I myself, feel that life is fun and if I do it seriously, doing work seriously I will be burning out. I created this song so that the people who listen to it can think we will fight the mean people, today we can go to work and do our best.
I do not often use a single song at the beginning of the album, but since this time it felt like a good opening song, I did anyway.
Q: There is also this song that you tried composing for the first time in a while as well. that is‥
A: It’s Dangerous. I had the desire to surpass songs like Pop Diva or Universe that I often sing in concerts. So I asked the composer Hi-yunk to make a song that will make the audience even more excited than with Pop Diva.
Q: How much were you involved in the composition?
A: At the beginning, when Hi-yunk first presented the song to me, I said "I want to do it more like this", I entered the studio and erased the material of the original track, or stood in front of the microphone by myself and made melodies and changed the song. At that time, he told “that’s good”, and I could compose my first song in 10 years. I feel like I rearranged the song rather than making it from scratch. I chose it as the first track for a-nation live, and I also announced on SNS to the fans, so the excitement was rising. "
Q: - WATCH OUT !! ~ DNA ~ was also made with Hi-yunk?
A:"One day when I went to the studio, I saw that Hi-yunk was working on a song, so I asked “What is it?” "
It looked like he was composing this song for a different artist, but I asked him " Please do it for me ... ". lol
Q: - (LOL) I wondered why you included the name of the album in the song title.
A: Well, now that the information is overflowing in the world, how do you spend seeing good things and bad things while feeling that more and more people are misled by information as they are no longer being sent out? .
The main character of this lyric is depicting a strong woman who is able to pull herself on the groove without blurring.
Q: - I feel it is a powerful song that resonates with intention and sound that it is not swept away in a changing era. By the way, what do you think about the risks of SNS and the society of excessive information?
A: "I think that if I want to see someone, it’s better to go and see them. So if I have to say something on my insta or SNS, this is Kumi Koda.
When it becomes borderline, I will send what I want to do.
Q: I felt that ScREaM was just a song for SNS.
A: "Oh yeah exactly ... Because it's such a pop song, I can use strong lyrics, which was fun creating during the production stage."
To be continued....
